Robyn has finally announced her new album "Sexistential", her first since 2018's "Honey".
The album features nine playful pop songs reminiscent of her "Body Talk" trilogy and, according to Robyn, "feels like a spaceship hurtling through the atmosphere at high speed and crashing". "That's how I felt, like I had all these experiences when I was looking too far into space, and now I'm crashing back into myself."
"Sexistential", co-produced with her longtime collaborator Klas Åhlund, is haunting and defiant in its exploration of emotional and biological pleasure. The album title originally came about as an inside joke before Robyn realized it expressed everything she wanted to say. "Exploring my sensuality is the same feeling as writing a good song," she explains. "It's such a beautiful, subtle vibe that takes a lot of work to maintain. I feel like the purpose of my life is to stay sensual - it doesn't even have to be about sex, but about feeling sensual and being drawn to things that give me pleasure and not letting anything else crowd out those feelings."
